Women’s Tour of Tigray: A Bridge to Ethiopian Cycling
Tour of Tigray: A Bridge to Ethiopian Cycling
The Women’s Tour of Tigray was more than just another race on the calendar for Team Amani. It was an intentional step toward elevating the status of the event and showcasing the incredible depth of Ethiopian cycling talent. Ethiopia has long been a cycling powerhouse, and we saw this as an opportunity to help shine a brighter light on the sport’s growing prominence in the region.
Our riders from Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda came in knowing they would face strong competition, but the level of talent in the peloton still exceeded our expectations. The racing was fast, aggressive, and fiercely contested—setting the bar high for our team and offering an invaluable test for our athletes. Every stage was a reminder that the future of African women’s cycling is bright, and Ethiopia is playing a leading role in that progress.
Beyond the race itself, our participation in Tigray was about building bridges. We see this as the beginning of a deeper connection between our team and Ethiopian cycling—one that brings together different cultures, styles of racing, and approaches to development. The experience reinforced our belief that collaboration is key to strengthening not just Team Amani, but the broader African cycling ecosystem.
The Women’s Tour of Tigray was a success in every sense. It challenged us, inspired us, and, most importantly, helped pave the way for future partnerships and opportunities. We came to elevate the race, but in the process, it elevated us.
This is just the start of something bigger.
