Tour du Rwanda: An Important Milestone for Team Amani

Tour du Rwanda: An Important Milestone for Team Amani

Racing in Rwanda was always going to be an important moment for Team Amani. The Tour du Rwanda wasn’t just our first-ever road race; it was an opportunity to test ourselves against the best, to learn, and to gain valuable experience racing in Africa’s premier UCI stage race. This was a milestone in our journey—not just in competition, but in understanding what it takes to race at this level.

From the outset, our approach was clear: ride aggressively, take every opportunity, and be present in every decisive moment. With no expectations other than to give our best, we pivoted early to a strategy of stage hunting—animating breaks, pushing the pace, and making our presence felt, a true pirate mentality. The team rode with heart, attacking relentlessly, ensuring that Amani colors were always at the sharp end of the race. While a stage win remained elusive, the effort and intent were unmistakable.

But beyond results, this race was an exercise in introspection and humility. Rwanda, with its passionate fans, breathtaking terrain, and deeply ingrained cycling culture, reminded us why we are here. It reinforced that our journey is about more than just racing—it’s about development, growth, and elevating cycling on the continent. Proving that cycling in Africa deserves our attention.

Tour du Rwanda also served as an invaluable scouting opportunity for future racing in Africa. The experience gained, the lessons learned, and the connections built here will shape our approach to road racing moving forward. This was not an endpoint but a beginning—an introduction to the challenges and possibilities that await.

With every attack, every breakaway, and every hard-fought kilometer, we moved one step closer to our ultimate goal: elevating African cycling and showcasing the talent that exists across the continent.

Rwanda was a milestone. The journey continues.
